What was fixed

Global Mapper writes these tile sets as Z<zoom>/Y/X.png rather than the ordinary XYZ folder order Z/X/Y. Reading that layout as standard XYZ swaps X and Y, producing a scrambled map that may appear thousands of kilometres away from its real location.

THS2 Map Builder 0.5.0 recognizes the layout through the .gm_source_def.xml metadata, maps the coordinates correctly, and calculates the actual bounds and center. Arbitrary root folders, including names with Cyrillic characters, are supported.

Both folders and ZIP archives are supported

On the XYZ tab, the regular Browse button accepts either a standard XYZ folder or an extracted Global Mapper export. A separate Browse ZIP button now accepts a Global Mapper archive directly, so a large archive does not need to be unpacked first.

Existing z/x/y and zZ/xX/yY folders continue to work as before. Global Mapper mode is enabled only when trusted metadata confirms the layout, so the converter does not guess the X/Y order from folder names alone.

Safer processing for large archives

Before building the map, the application validates metadata, raster extensions and signatures, zoom and coordinate ranges, duplicate tiles, and a single consistent tile format. ZIP input is also subject to limits for file count, expanded size, individual tile size, and compression ratio.

Encrypted archives, absolute or traversal paths, links, special files, DOCTYPE, ENTITY, and external XML resources are rejected. The source folder or archive remains unchanged, and every resulting PMTiles file must pass the official PMTiles CLI verification.

When to rebuild a map

If a Global Mapper export converted with an earlier release looks scrambled or opens in the Pacific west of Chile, the source tiles are probably fine—the Z/Y/X layout was interpreted incorrectly. Select the original folder or ZIP in version 0.5.0 and build the PMTiles file again.
